Mo. county to build tornado shelters

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 Property

Missouri is about to begin construction on the first of several underground tornado shelters that could become a national model if they prove effective at saving lives. Pettis County, home to 40,000 people in central Missouri, plans to build eight shelters; each would hold about 1,000 people. The idea is to have a place for people if they have no place suitable to hide.
