More Bedbugs, More Insurance Claims

Until recently, infestations of bugs, rats, and cockroaches were commonly excluded from commercial property insurance policies. Due to the tremendous costs to eradicate the pests, insurance companies would not touch such issues. About a month ago, with added pressure from lawmakers, national brokerage firms, Aon Risk Solutions of Chicago and New York-based Willis and NSM Insurance Group, offered bedbug insurance coverage for the first time.
