The North Carolina Senate has passed a bill which requires moped drivers to carry insurance. The measure approved by the Senate on Wednesday also requires moped drivers to register with the state. An earlier House bill only required registration. Sen. Tom Apodaca of Hendersonville says the insurance mandate is necessary because accidents and deaths involving mopeds continue to increase, and those responsible should be held accountable.
