North Carolina Residents Await Repairs On Storm-Damaged Housing
Wednesday, July 13th, 2016 PropertyIn the wake of a storm that ripped the roof off an apartment building in Boone, toppled trees, blocked roads, and cut power to more than 18,000 homes and businesses, officials say major progress in recovering has been made. Lee Layton, Chief Operating Officer for Blue Ridge Electric co-op, said Monday that the storm was not typical for the middle of summer.
"In my 40 years in the utility business I’ve never seen a summer storm cause this much trouble," Layton said. As many as 70 poles were broken in addition to lines knocked down by falling trees. Outages were reported across the area.
