Recovering Insurance Fees for Firefighting Expenses

Scranton’s exploration of recovering insurance fees for some firefighting expenses deserves further inquiry. City officials this week reported they may seek reimbursement from insurance companies providing coverage for properties that are damaged by fire or involved in other public safety-related incidents involving firefighters. Fire Recovery Service LLC, a Lehigh Valley company, made the pitch to provide the recovery service for the city and said it would charge the city between 15 and 30 percent of the revenue it would collect from insurers.
