Sisters sue insurance companies, claim fraud
Wednesday, August 8th, 2007 FraudMajor insurance companies along with the adjusters and engineering firms they employed are being sued in U.S. District Court, accused of fraudulently charging the federal government "hundreds of millions of dollars" for Hurricane Katrina claims the lawsuit says insurance companies should have paid. The lawsuit, filed more than a year ago under seal, was opened Monday to the public. It was filed as a whistleblower case on behalf of the U.S. government, which means the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Mississippi’s Southern District could take up the cause. But U.S. Attorney Dunn Lampton has so far declined to step in.
