Deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office charged a Mountain Rest man with Grand Larceny in connection to a vehicle theft reported on Westminster Highway on Friday. The victim told deputies that he saw Nathan Heaton drive off in a 2000 Dodge Stratus which Heaton did not have permission to drive.
Deputies said that vehicle was later involved in a fiery crash in which the driver had fled the scene on West Bryant Road in West Union. Heaton later went to the emergency room at the Oconee Medical Center with injuries from the crash, where deputies said he admitted to stealing the vehicle and leaving the accident scene.
