Temperature Drop Aids Morning Car Thieves

Wednesday, January 7th, 2015 Auto

Every single winter the Omaha Police Department advises people not to leave their car running to warm it up.
"It’s as easy as driving down the street and seeing if there is tail pipe with exhaust coming out of a car," said Omaha Police Officer Jacob Bettin. "All they have to do is just look in the driver’s seat." Every year when the temperatures drop the number of cars stolen in the morning hours goes up. "I heard multiple broadcasts of stolen auto just occurred, vehicle left running, unknown direction of travel," said Bettin when asked about Tuesday morning. There were five cars stolen in 15 minutes.
