Two Nearly Drown As Elevator Floods
Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 PropertyFirefighters from Ladder Company 86 said the Sunday morning rescue they participated in surprised even them. The group received a call from dispatch at 9:23 AM of a stuck elevator. "We get a lot of stuck elevators. There are usually people in them but there is always an address so this was a little tricky," Fire Captain James Melvin, who directed the mission, said. There were two options of buildings with elevators at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Christopher Lane on Staten Island, a Bank of America and the old Staten Island Hotel that is now being converted to assisted living residences.
