No one was injured when a small plane crashed Tuesday afternoon at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa. The single-engine Nanchang CJ-6 went down off the departure end of Runway 22R around 4:20 p.m. after takeoff. A wing apparently broke off and landed beside a fuel tank. There was a small fuel spill after the crash, which occurred near the runway, according to the Mesa Fire and Medical Department. Deputy Chief Forrest Smith said the pilot was doing touch-and-gos when she lost power on elevation. She was able to get the plane in a position to avoid going into buildings and out onto the traffic on McKellips Road.
