Water pipe problems persist in Athens, Ill.
Monday, February 17th, 2014 PropertyNew complaints about pinhole leaks in water pipes connected to the Athens water system have slowed to, well, a trickle. But neither the cause nor the cure for the leaks has ever been pinned down.
Some homeowners whose pipes were damaged received settlements from Athens’ insurer. Now, however, others are asking why they were never told the compensation program existed.
To add to the confusion, Athens’ insurer — the Illinois Municipal League Risk Management Association — this fall put a hold on further settlements in order to review the cause of the leaks.
