Keeping pace with expanding customer business lines means being ready to handle more than standard vehicle estimates or photos. SCA Appraisal Company has been doing exactly this for almost 40 years. On December 5, 2016 SCA celebrated 5 years of successful customer satisfaction and business expansion with its ORTT (Over Road Truck and Trailer) team who have completed over one-hundred thousand files. In a recent appraiser skills improvement class conducted by 15 year employee Scott Southard, SVP of Material Damage, he expressed thoughts on the program, “The core strength of our ORTT team resides in the people selected to both create and review estimates. Everyone on our team acquires specific knowledge and skills before working files. This knowledge is what makes SCA qualified to provide the best heavy equipment write-up.” Southard went on to speak about the ORTT process, “We obtain part prices from an extensive network of resources including salvage yards, aftermarket parts suppliers & dealerships where we have built relationships over the years from either being in the field or though phone communication. Networking to find the most cost effective and correct parts is critical to both reduce severity and follow our client’s specific requirements.” Because SCA is people-based, as opposed to some cyber-only companies, they are ready to pick up the phone to make or receive calls. Of course SCA has a completely automated dispatch system, leverages smartphone based photos, provides an adjuster dashboard, automates delivery and billing as well as includes Microsoft Business Intelligence reporting, but these things only support what really matters in the process — the people. The skill level of the ORTT management team speaks for itself with over 100 years’ actual estimatic experience. SCA highlighted a few of the 130 people responsible for estimating and file review: Carl Speights, 23 years HE experience with JOSAM heavy truck frame & ASE collision certification; Richard Ballard, 30 years heavy trucks & equipment training; Mike Saavedra, 20 years’ work experience from two major carriers in HE & RV’s. Additionally, the SCA Quality Control Team reviews every ORTT file before release to the client. This group confirms guidelines are followed, estimate written properly, and identifies potential borderline totals so as to reduce the Loss of Use impact on the tractor owner.
