Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EDT THIS
MORNING...
* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 degrees expected.
* WHERE...The Piedmont and Southern Foothills of North Carolina
and all of the Upstate of South Carolina and Northeast Georgia.
* WHEN...Until 10 AM EDT Thursday.
* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Most of the Warned area has already dropped
below 32 degrees this morning, ending the growing season. A
determination will be made later this morning as to which
forecast zones fell below freezing, therefore ending the frost
freeze program for the year. If any counties do not get below
freezing this morning, another freeze warning might be issued
for tonight.
