Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of northwest North Carolina, including the following county, Ashe. * WHEN...Until 330 PM EST. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. River or stream flows are elevated. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 114 PM EST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Up to 2 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Beaver Creek, Cut Laurel Creek, Helton Creek, Hoskin Fork, Darnell Creek, Big Horse Creek, Call Creek, Grassy Creek, Big Laurel Creek and Dog Creek. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Jefferson... West Jefferson... Lansing... Ashland...
