Compensation Overview The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.

As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range $149,600.00 - $246,800.00 Target Openings 1 What Is the Opportunity? The National Underwriting Team plays a critical role in the achievement of Travelers financial objectives through the development of countrywide and state Personal Insurance (PI) Underwriting strategies.

The team establishes PI Underwriting standards and expectations so that underwriters are able to conduct thorough analysis of risks, make sound underwriting decisions and appropriately execute those decisions.

As a AVP Product, Nat'l UW, you are responsible for the strategic and operational management of Personal Insurance (PI) Underwriting strategy, philosophy and positions.

With a focus on talent development and resource management, you will lead a team in managing the underwriting portfolio.

What Will You Do? Lead the team to develop and implement PI underwriting strategies, philosophies, guidelines, and positions based on competitor analysis and underwriting results and alignment with overall product strategy.

Establish annual underwriting business plan in alignment with product roadmap.

Coach and lead the team to monitor effectiveness and analyze results of underwriting initiatives and projects using sophisticated tools and methods, such as competitor analysis, claim trends, telematics, models, inspections, and other advanced underwriting tools.

Oversee development of monitoring mechanisms and recommend improvements post-implementation.

Oversee all aspects of Business Center/Underwriting Operations audits ensuring components meeting Enterprise guidelines.

Implement corrective actions as needed.

Manage team to provide appropriate level of underwriting analysis, expertise, and consultation to PI teams and other areas.

Oversee team's underwriting consultation and support to PI teams and other areas.

Ensure team is underwriting risk submissions and exceptions when outside of Business Center Underwriting authority, including reporting on submissions and corresponding quality and underwriting handling analysis.

Drive efficient underwriting workflow processes, best practices and controls.

Manages underwriting execution/system implementation for underwriting and related product initiatives.

Ensures team has appropriate levels of understanding of quote, issuance, and underwriting editing systems.

Manages system implementation of underwriting changes including communication, documentation, input to test plans and validation.

Coach managers to develop these capabilities.

Drive the development of communications, training, procedures and reference materials for Business Center underwriters, agents and other stakeholders.

Oversee delivery of training.

Prioritize Underwriting team resources and promote development of individual team members in the areas of leadership, product knowledge and consulting.

Represent Travelers as an underwriting expert for industry committees such as ISO, AIA or CPCU.

Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have? Nine years of Personal insurance experience, with at least five years of personal insurance individual risk underwriting experience.

Master's Degree or completion of or matriculation in CPCU, IIA, ARM, CIC or other recognized insurance designations.

PI product development or claim experience with strong understanding of products, underwriting, coverage and systems.

Advanced to expert knowledge and understanding of personal insurance products, underwriting, rules, systems, coverage, distribution channels, regulatory environment, and insurance financials.

Advanced leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop team members, leverage differences, and strategically align resources to accomplish key objectives.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to present, influence, and negotiate at various levels of the organization and with external partners.

Demonstrated experience in developing and planning effective strategies, with the ability to lead a team to implement those strategies.

Advanced ability to influence state/regional strategies and positions.

Coaching and talent development skills (expert) including ability to mentor, coach, motivate and train others to develop this skill Advanced ability to maximize individual and organizational performance.

Resource and capacity management skills.

What is a Must Have? Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Six years of relevant experience with insurance products, underwriting, coverage, rules, compliance/regulatory environment, and/or insurance financials.
