Responsibilities The Manager, Underwriting Services leads a team of Underwriter Assistants supporting both domestic and international underwriting.
The role focuses on team development, process optimization, technology integration, and service qualitynot direct underwriting.
The Manager ensures that support functions align with underwriting standards and deliver consistent, high-quality service.
Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Underwriter Assistants across both domestic and international support functions.
Oversee onboarding to ensure alignment with underwriting standards, guidelines and best practices.
Create and deliver training materials and resources to ensure ongoing and consistent, high-quality performance across the team.
Provide continuous coaching and performance feedback to drive team growth and effectiveness.
Underwriting Knowledge & Authority Maintain a strong understanding of underwriting principles, guidelines, and risk assessment to guide team.
Exercise a Letter of Authority for defined underwriting decisions and/or approvals.
Partners with underwriters to ensure documentation, compliance and service quality expectations are met.
Participate in underwriting audits and quality reviews to ensure support processes meet regulatory and internal standards.
Process Design & Optimization Collaborate with Underwriting leadership to design, document, and implement scalable workflows and processes.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation, ensuring scalability and consistency across teams.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure productivity and service quality.
AI System Integration & Change Management.
Serve as a key stakeholder and change champion of AI system implementation.
Partner closely with project leads, IT, and vendor teams to ensure the system aligns with the needs of both domestic and international underwriting support.
Lead change management efforts including communication, training, and adoption strategies.
Monitor system impact, gather feedback from users, and advocate for enhancements to optimize performance and usability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Liaison with Underwriting, Operations, Technology, and other key stakeholders to integration of support services.
May perform other functions as assigned
Qualifications 5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting or underwriting support. 2+ years in a supervisory/management role.
Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and insurance operations across both domestic and international markets.
Experience working with or supporting underwriting teams, with the ability to interpret and apply underwriting guidelines.
Experience exercising underwriting judgment within defined authority.
Demonstrated success in process improvement, workflow design, and change management.
Experience with AI tools or digital transformation initiatives is not required but highly desirable.
Excellent communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
