Medical Payments Coverage

Optional auto coverage paying reasonable medical expenses for you and passengers after an accident, regardless of fault, usually with low limits.

MedPay is similar in spirit to PIP but is optional in many states, has smaller limits, and does not replace lost wages unless endorsed. It can fill gaps before health insurance or coordinate per policy.

Examples

A passenger needs stitches after a crash; MedPay pays $3,000 of ER bills without fault determination.

Common Misconceptions

Assuming MedPay covers the at-fault other driver — usually not its purpose. Expecting high limits like health insurance.
