Honolulu fire officials say the damage from the high-rise fire at the Marco Polo last month has been estimated to exceed $100 million and is considered to be one of the most destructive fires in Honolulu’s recent history. More than 80 units received damage by fire, heat or smoke. More than 30 of the 80 units are considered to be destroyed. An additional 130 units were damaged by water. Investigators say the blaze originated in a unit on the 26th floor. They have ruled out cooking as a cause. At this time, fire investigators say there was no indication that it was intentionally set.
