A slab of granite fell on top of a 63-year-old man Thursday morning, striking him in the head and injuring his arm, Brevard County Fire-Rescue officials said. The incident happened about 8:15 a.m. at Absolute Granite and Stone on Cox Road in Cocoa, just north of State Road 520. Fire rescue officials said the granite, which weighed at least 1,000 pounds, was 1-inch thick and measured at least 6 feet by 10 feet, fell out of the truck as the worker was removing strapping from a delivery. The victim attempted to jump out of the way, but was struck by a large piece of granite as it shattered, according to fire officials. It was at least 1-inch thick, workers told fire officials.
