Wednesday, October 6th, 2004 — Insurance companies are paying a record two million plus claims to customers whose property was damaged or destroyed by the four Florida hurricanes; triple the 700,000 claims from Hurricane Andrew in 1992, according to the Insurance Information Institute.
More than one out of every five Florida homes has been damaged by a hurricane so far this year, the I.I.I. said. An estimated 15,000 insurance company claims adjusters from across the United States and Canada are covering 30,000 square miles in Florida assessing damage and handling claims.
