Floods cost economy billions

The $6 billion cost to the national economy - before the extra $5 billion clean up estimates - is set to grow as insurance claims from Queensland’s flood disaster climb well beyond the 4500 earlier expected. The impact of these floods was estimated by economists to shave up to 0.4 per cent off the first quarter of growth, but that was before the latest deluge.
