New Tampa squad targets auto insurance fraud

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater has created a second fraud squad in Tampa targeting the growing number of staged auto accidents and fraudulent auto insurance claims. In announcing the new personal injury protection, or PIP, squad, Atwater noted that more than 40 percent of Florida’s insurance fraud referrals every year involve PIP fraud.
