Veteran Firefighter Hurt While Battling Blaze

A veteran firefighter was hurt Tuesday while battling a garage fire in Sacramento County, an official said. The blaze occurred at 6736 Ellsworth Circle in Fair Oaks. Sacramento Metro Firefighter Jeffery Wells fell through the roof of the burning home. He was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment. Wells suffered a knee injury and received some minor burns. He was listed in fair condition. While on the roof performing vertical ventilation, the roof gave way, Assistant Fire Chief Scott Cockrum said.
