Homes threatened as new wildfire near Sierra Vista forces evacuations

A wildfire in southern Arizona has prompted mandatory evacuations for dozens of homes southeast of Sierra Vista. The Monument Fire has now burned 2,500 acres, a garage, and barn in the Huachuca Mountains. Carol Capas, spokeswoman for Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, says the fire broke out at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at Montezuma Pass. It’s burning in the Coronado National Monument and has spread into the Coronado National Forest.
