Fire officials in Groton will be trying to determine what caused a massive four-alarm fire that gutted a historic 300-year-old inn there late Tuesday night. Fire crews said the fire broke out about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Groton Inn on Main Street. It was a local landmark. Crews from 15 neighboring communities were called in to help battle the blaze. No one was reported injured. "The town’s just not going to be the same without out," said a disappointed resident who came out to survey the damage. "The floors were uneven, the walls were uneven, but it was character. It was really character."
