Tanker crash spills fuel, closes Route 8 in Thomaston until Tuesday

Route 8 Northbound in Thomaston is expected to be closed until Tuesday afternoon after a tanker carrying almost 9,000 gallons of gasoline crashed and went off the road between exits 39 and 41. "We’re asking people to avoid the area at all costs," state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said, "take alternate routes if they’re traveling to northwest Connecticut to try to avoid this situation....." The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. State police said the truck ran off the right shoulder of the road, crashed through a guardrail and rolled down an embankment.
