Freeway driver survives metal pipe blasting through windshield

A Turlock man survived a shot out of the blue — one that blasted through his windshield — Tuesday on Highway 99 through Bakersfield. Marcus Kasprzyk, 41, was rolling down the freeway at 65 mph when a metal pipe shot through his windshield. California Highway Patrol Officer Roberto Rodriguez said the pipe would have impaled Kasprzyk if it hadn’t hit the steering wheel. Kasprzyk was just south of Olive Drive and was nearly to his exit when he said he saw the pipe dislodge from what he thinks was a black Dodge truck in front of his car.
