Family Rescued After Van Pushed Off Balboa Island Ferry

A mother, father and their two young children had to be rescued from the water Friday, after a collision sent their minivan off the Balboa Island Ferry. The accident happened just after 9 a.m. on the Balboa Island side of the ferry crossing in Newport Harbor. A black Mercedes was boarding the ferry when the driver accidentally accelerated, hitting the minivan and pushing it off the boat, according to witnesses. The Mercedes was left hanging precariously from the front of the ferry.
