White Salmon wildfire threatens hundreds of homes

Friday, September 7th, 2012 Property

Hundreds of homes are being threatened by a wildfire that has burned more than 1,500 acres five miles north of White Salmon, WA, officials said. Flames spread up steep, wooded hills above White Salmon near the small town of Husum on Thursday. The Highway 141 fire has since forced evacuations for at least 50 homeowners. Hundreds more left their homes voluntarily. Several fires broke out in the area initially, but firefighters managed to stamp out all but two of them. The largest, 1,500-acre fire, and a smaller, 50-acre fire then merged overnight.
