Lightning storms sparked dozens of wildfires in Central Washington Saturday night, leaving hundreds of acres burning Sunday. By Monday morning, state fire assistance had been mobilized by Washington State Patrol to combat four fires in Klickitat, Chelan, Douglas and Lincoln Counties. The fire of most concern threatened approximately 140 homes just west of Wenatchee Sunday. Firefighters battling the blaze, known as the Number One Canyon Fire, said the fire burned 250 acres and is growing. Variable winds, which include gusts forecasted of up to 36 MPH, complicated fire fighting efforts, said the Canyons Fire Public Information Officer John Kruse.
