Former Gary cop pleads guilty to misdemeanor

A former veteran Gary police sergeant charged with insurance fraud pleaded guilty on Tuesday to misdemeanor false informing in exchange for a six-month sentence served on probation. Former Sgt. Wayne H. Brazelton, 54, admitted he lied to Gary police Cpl. Lionel Hampton when he reported his Jet Ski stolen after he’d left it staked to a boat ramp at Lake Street Beach on July 31, 2008, during a heavy rain storm from which Brazelton sought shelter.
