Toyota to recall 370,000 trucks to fix seat belts

Thursday, August 8th, 2013 Subrogation

Toyota will recall 370,000 Tacoma pickup trucks in the United States, Canada and Germany to fix a defect with the seat belt, the Japanese automaker said Wednesday. Screws within the seat belt assembly "can become loose over time due to repeatedly and forcefully closing the access door," Toyota said in a statement. If the screws get too loose the seat belt pre-tensioner and retractor spring cover could detach. The bulk of the vehicles -- 342,000 -- were recalled in the United States. A further 27,000 were recalled in Canada and 60 in Germany. The recall affects 2004 to 2011 model years. Letters will be sent to affected customers and the repairs will be made at no charge.
