A South Florida police officer has been arrested and charged after he allegedly left the scene of an accident over the weekend. Thirty-five-year-old Larry Laverde was arrested and has been suspended with pay as he awaits the results of an ongoing investigation. According to police, Laverde was off-duty when he crashed into a car while driving his police cruiser along Southwest 127th Avenue and Miller Drive at around 2:30 a.m., Sunday. According to the arrest report, Laverde fled the scene after the crash without rendering aid to the crash victims. Laverde then went home and called a friend to tell him about what had occurred. The friend immediately called police and told them what Laverde had confessed to him. Police arrested Laverde at his home after he failed a sobriety test.
