University of Iowa Settles Malpractice Case

A University of Iowa doctors’ group paid $60,000 to settle a medical malpractice lawsuit weeks after The Associated Press reported that the surgeon involved may have given incomplete testimony about his resignation. UI Physicians in April settled the lawsuit filed by Kimberly Buehrer, who claimed that doctor John Chaloupka failed to properly treat her condition that affected her hearing and skin.
The settlement was signed shortly after the AP won a two-year fight for access to Chaloupka’s resignation agreement, which revealed that he had clashed with other doctors and was stripped of key duties a year before his departure.
