The Earthquake Commission has received more than 9000 claims for the two big earthquakes which shook Wellington and the top of the South Island in July and August. The Earthquake Commission (EQC) has received more than 9000 claims for the two big earthquakes which shook Wellington and the top of the South Island in July and August. The quakes hit on July 21 and August 16 and measured 6.5 and 6.6 respectively. Both were centred at Seddon, 25km south of Blenheim. EQC said about 3000 of the claims were from the South Island, with the rest from the North Island.
