2 Injured in Blue Island, Ill. chemical plant explosion

A chemical leak led to an explosion and fire Friday afternoon at the Blue Island Phenol Llc in Blue Island. The plant is located at 3550 W. 131st. Officials say a chemical leak started around 11:30 in the afternoon. When workers went to shut down the leak, they say witnesses heard and felt an explosion. Two people were injured and transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. They’ve been moved to Loyola Medical center and are in stable condition.
