A fire tore through a multistory apartment building early Wednesday, causing heavy damage and displacing six families, police say. The fire broke out at about 3 a.m. in the rear of the building on South Fifth Street in Harrison, according to police. Flames and smoke quickly spread throughout and, at points, could be seen pouring from windows and the roof near the front of the building. Between 75 and 100 firefighters from several towns were called to the blaze, which went to three alarms before being brought under control shortly before 6 a.m.
