Dump Truck Avoiding Crash Lands in Ditch

A city dump truck hit a utility pole Tuesday morning, pulling down power lines and sparking a small fire.
According to Newport News police spokeswoman Holly McPherson, the dump truck driver saw a vehicle run a stop sign at the intersection of Parkway Drive and Captain John Smith Road around 11 a.m. and tried to avoid a crash. That’s when the dump truck went off the road, into a ditch. An image from a WAVY viewer showed smoke and flames coming from the front of the truck.
