Damaging Storms Sweep Through Southeastern Louisiana

 Tuesday, April 28, 2015

A strong and dangerous line of storms swept through the southeast Louisiana area, cancelling classes at some colleges, downing trees and knocking out power to 149,000 buildings in southeast Louisiana. As of 7:30 p.m. Monday power had been restored to many of those homes, with about 30,000 customers still without power in the metro area, but in some cases the power outages could last until Tuesday. The fast-moving thunderstorm caused widespread power outages and blew nearly a dozen container rail cars off the elevated tracks on the Huey Long Bridge in Jefferson Parish.
