Blanca Stronger, Expected To Become Major Hurricane

Hurricane Blanca is strengthening quickly in the eastern Pacific and is expected to become a major hurricane. The storm’s maximum sustained winds strengthened Tuesday night to 85 mph (140 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the storm is expected to strengthen further Wednesday, and will produce swells that are likely to generate dangerous surf and rip currents along portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico. Blanca is centered about 395 miles (640 kilometers) southwest of Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
