Hail damage represented 58 percent of comprehensive auto insurance claims in New Mexico from April through June, notably higher than the national average of 42 percent over the same spring months in 2013 and 2014, Farmers Insurance says.
Spring is hail season throughout the country, accounting for more than two-thirds of hail damage claims filed, according to Farmers’ analysis of both auto and homeowner insurance claims filed with the company in 2013-14. In the Albuquerque metro area this year, for example, at least three hail storms were reported during May.
