 Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Officials said lightning caused Bethlehem Baptist Church to catch fire Saturday destroying its sanctuary. A witness captured video of the church’s steeple engulfed in flames minutes after officials said it was hit by a bolt of lightning during a storm that passed through the Taylorsville area.“When it hit it was so loud. I actually jumped about 6 inches off the ground,” said Alexander Gagmon, who was across the street working on a home when the lightning hit the church. Firefighters inside Bethlehem Community Fire and Rescue said they also heard the lightning strike the church, which sits just across the street from their department.
