Jacksonville Area Swamped By Heavy Rainfall

Hours of heavy rain pummeled the Jacksonville area Sunday and continued into the morning hours Monday, leaving behind a wet mess for many local residents to clean up. The Mayport area received nearly 12 inches of rain Sunday, putting flood waters into several homes and flooding streets. Late Sunday night, the American Red Cross announced they would be opening a shelter at Highlands United Presbyterian Church, 10900 McCormick Road, for displaced residents.
