Former NYC Cop Pleads Guilty To Defrauding Auto Insurers

A former New York City police officer and one-time Yonkers resident with a penchant for high-end cars has been sentenced to two to six years in state prison for a scheme to defraud insurance companies. Jose Urena, who was formerly assigned to the 25th Precinct in northern Manhattan, made several fraudulent auto-insurance claims in two years, filed false documents and gave false testimony in an attempt to avoid making payments on two Mercedes-Benzes and to pay for upgrades on a Dodge Charger.
