As many as 350 vessels inside a Northeast Portland marina were destroyed by a fire that caused more than $1 million in damages early Monday. The fire at Sundance Marina, 570 NE Tomahawk Island Drive, was reported around 10:30 p.m. Sunday. More than 100 firefighters battled the 4-alarm blaze at the 89,000-square foot facility along the Columbia River.
Heavy fire was seen pouring from the warehouse, which stores boats. The flames were so intense that, at first, firefighters had to attack the blaze from the outside.“It’s a unique situation when we can’t get interior and extinguish the fire as quickly as possible,” Portland Fire & Rescue’s Jesse Altig said.
