There was scant warning for a "tropical-style storm system" that spawned heavy rain and strong winds Thursday, resulting in flooded homes and waterways across much of South Mississippi. An early morning storm system left areas of Biloxi and Gulfport with as much as 12 inches of rain in about a five-hour stretch, according to the National Weather Service. As standing water begins to run off into streams and rivers, Harrison County Emergency Management Director Rupert Lacy said, several rivers will flood.
