Fire Damages Office Building In Downtown Bend, Oregon

Thursday, September 8th, 2016 Property

A downtown Bend office building built 30 years ago on the site of famed Klondike Kate’s house was heavily damaged in a fire Wednesday morning that sent up a tall smoke plume visible across the city. The building, called "Kate’s Place," now houses several businesses, including A Superior Property Management, where the fire was reported shortly before 6:30 a.m. Neighbors reported still seeing large flames coming from the structure an hour later. Smoke was coming from under the eaves around the roof when firefighters arrived, according to unconfirmed scanner reports. Police checked to make sure no one was inside.
