Obama Grants FEMA Aid For Storm-Damaged Areas In Virginia

President Barack Obama declared parts of Hampton Roads disaster sites Wednesday because of the extensive damage from Hurricane Matthew last month. Federal funding will be available to residents and businesses in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk and Newport News. Those affected have to apply to receive grants for temporary housing and home repairs, and loans to cover uninsured property losses, a statement from the White House said. A day earlier at the Virginia Beach City Council meeting, Mayor Will Sessoms criticized the White House, saying he was frustrated with how long it was taking the government to make an emergency disaster declaration for Virginia.
