The snowpack in Utah is melting, and its causing water runoff that has emergency management personnel alert for possible flooding. “Flooding is the most common natural disaster," said Joe Dougherty, PIO for Utah Emergency Management. "In Utah we often worry about earthquakes and severe winter storms, but flooding happens way more often.” Governor Herbert declared March 12 to March 18 "Flood Safety Awareness Week." During the week theyre sharing tips on how to be prepared. “We do have a record snow and water impact this year, and I would really like them to think about the possibility of mitigating with flood insurance,” said Kathy Holder, a coordinator for the National Flood Insurance Program.
