As Oklahomans, many of us accept that sometimes Mother Nature is not kind to our state. Weve all been affected by tornadoes in one way or another. One thing we dont have to accept is that our home will be destroyed or seriously damaged by severe weather. Construction science has proven that high-wind and tornado-resistant residential construction standards exist. Theyre found in Florida, on the East Coast and right here as a municipal building code in Moore. While Floridas new construction standards came after Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the city of Moore sought a way to stop or lessen tornado damage after three devastating tornadoes.
